BOSTON – September 13, 2019 – Breckinridge Capital Advisors, a Boston-based investment advisor and Certified B Corporation, announced today that it is a 2019 “Best for the World” honoree in the Customer, Governance and Changemaker categories. This means Breckinridge scored in the top 10 percent (20 percent for Changemakers) in these categories on the B Lab’s B Impact Assessment, an in-depth evaluation of a company’s impact on all its stakeholders.

The “Best for Customers” list recognizes companies that work to improve the lives of their customers through the use of their product or service. The impact is measured by any potential public benefit promoted by a firm’s products or services, any potential benefit to a social or environmental issue, and by any potential targeting of those products or services toward underserved populations.

The “Best for Governance” list recognizes companies that create innovative governance structures to protect the mission of their business for the long term. The Governance section of the B Impact Assessment evaluates a company’s overall mission, ethics, accountability and transparency. It measures whether the company has adopted a social or environmental mission, and how it engages its employees, board members and the community to achieve that mission.

The “Changemakers” list recognizes companies with the most verified improvements on questions across all impact areas in the B Impact Assessment over time. Corps that earn the designation, of “Changemaker” set a gold standard for managing and improving their business’ social and environmental impact over time.

Breckinridge became a certified B Corp in 2013 and reports each year through the B Impact Assessment. This gives the company a structured way to measure its sustainability practices and continue to improve on their efforts.

B Corps meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose. B Corp Certification doesn’t just evaluate a product or service, it assesses the overall positive impact of the company that stands behind it. Using the B Impact Assessment, B Lab evaluates how a company’s operations and business model impact its workers, community, environment, and customers. To achieve the B Corp Certification, a company must achieve a score of at least 80 points on the assessment.
